We feature music this week from the Ottawa group Crimsonics. You can download and listen to their latest songs here!
This week we went out to the Byward Market where there were steady streams of happy patrons leaving with fresh sandwiches. Of course, we went to La Bottega Nicastro. We met up with Pat and Rocco Nicastro (@BottegaNicastro) as well as Larissa who runs many of the events @LarissaOttawa. We spoke about:
– We find out about Pat first, born into the business working on the store on Gladstone in the olive department
– He opened La Bottega Nicastro right after University
– It came about after a 4th year University project
– Pat started at La Bottega Nicastro after University
– Italian school at St.Pius
– The history of the stores
– Generations of Italians still going to the stores
– Pat will be in Italy for most of the World Cup
– How Larissa came to work at La Bottega Nicastro
– What is new at the store
– The events that they have been putting on
After the 2nd song from the Crimsonics, Don from foodiePrints came on to tell us about the new Detroit Soul Food restaurant on Gladstone. I can’t wait to try it being such a fan of all things Detroit myself.
After the break we discussed:
– Some of the many charities they support such as Villa Marconi and Toy Mountain’s Winter Glam event among many others
– What is going on for the new Preston location with Domicile
– Scouting out new products in Italy
– How they started their own label
– Larissa’s wine pick
– Cooking classes Thursday nights as well as wine and cheese tastings on Sundays
Here is a great video that captures the essence of going to La Bottega Nicastro in the Byward Market!:
