This was my first appearance on the National mortgage weekly Google hangout show. It was an honour to be the first mortgage agent from Ottawa to go on these pillars of the Canadian mortgage scene.
The show goes over many different all encompassing topics in the mortgage world such as differences of lenders, marketing, the problems of going going with banks and not mortgage agents, and many more.
The topic today was mortgage underwriters. Mortgage underwriters are the behind the scenes people that work at all the different lenders that go over the applications that we submit to them and decide if it meets the guidelines of the lender and that they will accept the application. I respect the underwriters very much because they do face a lot of heat from some mortgage agents for many various things. It usually comes down to lack of communication. The mortgage underwriters do not know the clients, they just see a bunch of numbers and history and that is the main way of how their decisions are based. This is why I get to know my clients as much as possible so that if the underwriter ever has a question, I have the answer right away. Also I submit my applications and information from the client to the underwriters that makes their job easier. I find that they really appreciate that and I get very courteous responses from them all.
