This past week we had the pleasure of meeting with two of the founding members of the new fantastic free magazine in Ottawa, Herd Magazine. We met with Pat Bolduc, the Photo Editor/Advertising Coordinator and Joey Arseneau, the creative director.
It was a lively chat, sponsored by the great folks at Kichesippi Beer, so I hope you take a moment to learn about this great magazine.

Music this week was provided by the getting famous Ottawa band, Amos The Transparent. Their 2nd album “Goodnight My Dear, I’m Falling Apart” is free on their website right now. Please get it and see them live! They are currently touring Ontario and will hopefully be playing a bunch of live shows in the summer.

Some of the highlights you can expect in the 12th episode of Lunch Out Loud include:
– The launch party at Fall Down Gallery and Amos performing there
– Where Pat and Joey are from and how they showed up in Ottawa
– The culture change in Ottawa over the past few years
– Talking about HUB Ottawa
– Their new location
– They are pretty consistent with the Standard, the Manx, and Oz Kafe.
– Joey is a huge fan of the Renfrew golf course
– Where they would buy and what they would buy in Ottawa in real estate if they were given a million dollars

After the break we discussed:
The Spark music school in Kanata and downtown with some of the best artists Ottawa has
– How they all met up to start the magazine
– Vice documentary content
– How they came up with the name “Herd Mag”
– We talk about many of their contributors such as Matias Munoz (great music content), Kelly Brisson (food photography and articles), Emma Godmere, Katy Watts (resident beer expert)
– Increasing ad revenue, want to stay away from it, but keep it as independent as possible
– The goal of creating jobs for creative people
– Keep creative people coming back to Ottawa

Thanks for listening, please support this magazine!
