First off, major apologies to Sonny for the sound on this episode. It was my fault with not testing the mic before the show like I do for all the others. Anyways it was a great episode and Sonny’s knowledge of Ottawa is incredible. He is the managing partner of York Entertainment/ Ottawa Venues, who run over 14 establishments in the Byward market and beyond. He has been doing this since the early days of On Tap and the Cabin (basically since 1996). We thought what better way to get people geared up for Christmas but to talk about what is going on downtown. We did this episode at Bluebird Café on Dalhousie.

The band we featured was Loon Choir. They have just finished a major tour of eastern Canada and next year look to go west. They are very dynamic and I can see some big things going for them in the future. They also played at Junofest and Bluesfest.

We spoke about wakeboarding in this area. Sonny spends a lot of time on the Ottawa River with tons of space and waterways and boating up to Montebello. Right from the Hull marina you can get there or even the Lac Leamy casino.

We spoke about the beauty of Canada day and how it is a great reunion for anyone from Ottawa or went to University here. There truly is nowhere better.

Next we brought up the Spin Bin at the Cabin (entrance on Dalhousie). It is Ottawa’s first ping-pong bar on Wednesday nights with your host Michael Kirkpatrick.

For restaurants we spoke about Farbs in New Edinburgh, Union 613 on Somerset, Navarra’s and Murray Street both on, you guessed it, Murray Street .

There was mentions about the changes in Ontario liquor laws and bottle service changes in the Ottawa area. The Green Room is Ottawa’s first carbon neutral night club, it has replaced the Industry room. The dueling pianos at Fat Tuesdays is The Velvet Room also has a dinner theatre there now that is a very cool event. Very well done and occurs every Friday and Saturday.

We finish off talking about York Entertainment’s bartending schoolwhere they are able to put people in courses with guaranteed jobs in the industry upon completion. The instructors are handpicked and currently working in the industry and it is an accelerated program over 5 days. There are also shorter workshops for anyone with an interest in other topics such as mixology and wanting to improve on their dinner parties.

Once again, my apologies to Sonny and the listeners for my error in the recording. We are new to this and always looking at improving, so we learned from this!
