First off, I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season!
We thought what better way to take advantage of the “dead time” between Christmas and New Years by bringing in one of our resident financial planners, Shane Currey. He will be coming in to discuss the family business, Currey Insurance, as well as provide our listeners on some financial tips for 2013 as well as talking about the “fiscal cliff”. The best way to contact Shane is email at shane@curreyinsurance.com or 613-733-3312.
Music this week comes from a young local band called “Trees”. They began as a more experimental instrumental band but now have brought on Jon Matthews as a lead singer and have just recently released their first album, Catzenatica. I thoroughly enjoy this band and I expect big things coming from them in the future. They are the featured artist at a slam poety night at Pressed Café. Here is the link. The songs we play by Trees are Fetchin’ Bones, Oodian Lina, and Kilimanjaro.
At the end of the show I talk about New Years Eve events using Eventful Capital, a great blog ran by my friend Elly. Bookmark it for all the latest news of events going on in Ottawa!
Learning more about Shane, he is a Westboro boy, his favorite restaurants are Absinthe, Milagro Grill, Vittoria Trattoria in the Byward market. Who doesn’t love going to the patios in the market in the summer? He love competitive volleyball, MaxVolley 2 on 2 takes place across the city and there are tournmanents in the summer. Check out the website here.
Here is a great site that updates the Ottawa Outdoor Ice Hockey conditions www.ottawarinkconditions.ca/
At around the 10 minute mark we start learning about Currey Insurance, Shane’s company. It is an excellent conversation on why you should give them a chance over going to the local bank for financial advice. There are many great solutions to insurance that can end up making you money. I encourage all of my clients to visit an independent insurance professional who loves what they do and you can call at anytime if you have a question. You do not want to always have to dial 1 then 2 then 5 then 6 to talk to someone who doesn’t know you.
We talk about the Homebuyer’s plan with the RRSP and TFSA strategies that for my first time homebuyers are excellent to listen to.
Next week we will feature music from Claude Munson and the Storm outside and our guests will be the creators of Ottawa’s newest boutique public relations agency. Joining us will be Fadi Ghaby, Marilou Moles, and Robert McCoy. They will have so many interesting stories about Ottawa and we will learn about their new endeavour! Once again, thanks for listening!
