Lunch Out Loud Ottawa with Geoff and Simon from Absolute Comedy

The Wicked Mercy

This week our featured Bluesfest artist from Ottawa called The Wicked Mercy. They have been playing a lot of gigs in and around the Ottawa/Gatineau region.
You can go to their Album release on April 27th at Irene’s Pub on Bank or see them at Bluesfest on July 13. They are a bluesy/rock and roll kind of band.

The guests we had on our show this week are regulars at Absolute Comedy. Simon Seline as he has been the doorman since 2004, so if you have been to Absolute Comedy, you have probably met this gentleman. The other character was Geoff MacKay, a regular host and all round funny guy. I hope you enjoy the episode.

The Wi-Fi again was a little off on this episode. Once again, apologies, we will be pre-recording from here on in to make sure quality is always top. That is the goal.

We gathered in the green room at Absolute Comedy to talk about:
– How long they have been using Eminem’s 8 Mile song to introduce the show at Absolute
– How and why Simon and Geoff still live in Ottawa
– How Simon got the doorman job
– Some of the favorite clubs they’ve been at including San Francisco
– During the sound go down, we asked where they take other comics, they mentioned DiRienzo’s and going to Quebec for poutine
– There is a ton of great corporate work in and around Ottawa which makes this a good comic town
– We talk about how fun the Wednesday night Pro-Ams
– Up and coming Rebecca Reids who started as a server, Adrian Cronk is another good up and comer
– We talk about what comics they listened to growing up and now

After the break we spoke about:
– Their comedy tour to China where they sang instead of did comedy at the 51st International Model show
– More about the rest of the tour in China
– Simon shares a story of a comic that had a heart attack while in Ottawa and how the club banded together to raise all the money for her medical bills while in Ottawa
– Hecklers
