Sorry about the sound, I forgot to change the internal microphone settings.
The band this week was StillNative who will be playing at Casino Lac Leamy on July 11th.
We met at the illume café with Andrew King, the very impressive artist from Ottawa, we spoke about:
– Twitter @twitandrewking
– #wellboro walks
– How he came about to living in Westboro
– The change in Westboro since he first arrived there, basically when MEC came in
– The Wellington Gastropub in the “Digestive District” as Andrew has named it
– What his path was to get to being the painter that he is
– He was a artist for TV animation first
– He also had a syndicated comic strip that used to be in the Ottawa Citizen
– His Jane’s walk in the Wellington area including some of the stories
– First public movie in Canada was shown at Fisher park
– He really wants Wellington Street to be preserved and not as many infills
– He would love to see aesthetic police implemented

After the break we discussed:
– What is his motivation to creating his art
– He re-creates experiences from the past, tries to live in them and then can paint them
The Wellboron– a fake condo, social experiment that he ran that coincided with his last art gallery
– How Andrew feels about the art scene in Ottawa
The New Art Festival, 300 artists, June 15-16
– His Ottawapparel, nostalgic Ottawa signage
